Please bring in Hobbs batting bar code labels. It allows the guild a reduced fee for huge rolls of quality batting.. Thanks!
We make quilts for children and adults that are donated to various organizations. Our January meeting is usually devoted to working on donated quilts as a group. Throughout the year individual guild members make and donate many items on their own through our Service committee in the name of the guild. The quilts go to a number of local organizations, including Shelter of Our Sisters, the Veteran's home, nursing homes, disaster relief organizations and many others.
Each member is expected to make one donated item each year. You are welcome and encouraged to make as many as you like!
The recommended size for a child's themed quilt is 36inches X 40 inches.
The recommended size for an adult quilt is 42 inches X 60 inches for either an adult or child's themed quilt.
Instructions and patterns are available at the Service table at each meeting, or choose any pattern you'd like to make.
We ask all members to help in the organization, set up and break down of the Brownstone Guild Quilt show, which is held every other year. There is a job for everyone, no matter what your abilities, from collecting and selling tickets at the door, to baking for the hospitality table. Quilts need to be judged, hung, and taken down. Raffle tickets need to be sold. There is truly a job for everyone and we need you! The proceeds from the shows help us to grow as a guild and provide additional programs and services to the members.
This year 54 members plus 1 guest assembled 35 quilts in one night! The Center for Hope and Safety received 4 bed quilts. Children's Aide andFamily Services in Paramus received 9 bed quilts. Saturday Sew Day yielded 9-10 quilts . Preakness Nursing Facility in Wayne was the recipient of 7 quilts, and St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic received 7. The balance will be brought to February's meeting for distribution.
